Real Madrid boss wants Upamecano

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is reportedly determined to land the signature of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig during the summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona over the past year and he could be set to leave the German side at the end of the season.

Upamecano has so far declined to sign a new contract beyond June 2021 and Leipzig find themselves in a helpless situation with a £55m release clause likely to be active from July.

According to AS, Zidane is keen on landing the services of Upamecano as he is looking for a new centre-back to compete with the likes of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos for a starting berth.

At present, Varane, Ramos, Nacho and Eder Militao are the options at the manager's disposal. Los Blancos are said to be eyeing a successor for Ramos, who has entered the twilight phase of his career.

Meanwhile, there have been questions raised over the futures of Nacho and Militao despite the fact that the latter has impressed with the limited gametime since joining the club last summer.
