Arsenal prepared to negotiate fresh terms with defender
Arsenal are prepared to hand David Luiz a new deal beyond the summer, provided he is prepared to negotiate the terms of his contract.
The centre-back joined the Gunners from Chelsea last summer after he agreed on a one-year contract with the option for a further 12 months.
The club have yet to trigger the extension on his £120,000-a-week deal and The Telegraph claims that they want the defender to take a pay-cut.
Luiz was inconsistent under Unai Emery during the first half of the current season but he has vastly improved under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.
He remains a favourite under the Spaniard and it is suggested that the Brazilian has a good chance of staying put with the club next season.
The Brazil international has recently said that he wants to end his career at Benfica but he is unlikely to leave the Gunners in the current situation.
The north London side are low on funds with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and they are likely to rely on loan, swap and free transfer deals to strengthen the squad this summer.
