Mikel Arteta provides fresh injury update on Bernd Leno
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Bernd Leno may have suffered a serious knee injury during the club's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
The north London side saw both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari pick up injuries against Manchester City earlier this week and the latter appears set to be ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious ankle issue.
Against the Seagulls, their injury troubles extended with a worrying knee injury picked up by Leno in the opening half, for which he was substituted in a stretcher.
Speaking after the game, Arteta confirmed that the German had sustained damage in his right knee and said that the exact timescale for the recovery will be determined following an assessment.
"It's a knee injury. I think he had a hyperextension of the knee. We have to assess the damage. He was in a lot of pain. He's still in some pain. We will have to wait to tomorrow to see how bad the damage is," He told.
Arsenal have succumbed to back-to-back league defeats since the season restart. They have now dropped to 10th in the Premier League table with eight games to play.
