Arsenal told to pay Thomas Partey release clause

Atletico reluctant to lower asking price for Partey

Atletico Madrid have reportedly told Arsenal that they would need to pay the entire release clause in Thomas Partey's contract to sign him this summer.

The Gunners have already failed with a player-plus-cash bid for Partey where Matteo Guendouzi was included as a makeweight.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atleti have clearly mentioned that they won't sanction Partey's sale for anything less than the £45m release clause.

He added that the Gunners are now looking to recoup funds from player sales and Lucas Torreira could be one of those heading for the exit door.

Torreira has been regularly linked with a return to the Serie A and he is currently attracting interest from Torino and AC Milan.

Aside from Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is another player, who has been fancied to leave the club despite his FA Cup heroics.

The north London side are willing to sanction his sale for around £30m, suppose he wants to pursue a fresh challenge this summer.
