Everton clear favourites to sign La Liga attacker

Everton are leading the race to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, a report from The Telegraph claims.

The Colombia international endured a difficult 2019/2020 season with Los Blancos and he made just 14 appearances across all competitions.

With under 11 months remaining on his contract, he is expected to be sold this summer and reports claim that he could be heading to the Premier League.

Rodriguez worked under Carlo Ancelotti at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and he is keen on a reunion with the legendary Italian head coach.

Ancelotti is likewise keen on signing the 29-year-old attacker after missing out on his services when he was the Napoli manager last summer.

The Toffees have lacked the creativity from the attacking midfield role with Gylfi Sigurdsson being largely inconsistent over the past 18 months.

Rodriguez could provide an instant upgrade in the position, but the only concern remains whether he can stay unscathed for a long period of time.

The former Monaco man has suffered nine short-term injuries over the past two years. He is currently valued at around £25m by Los Blancos.
