Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could hand the captain's armband to Thiago Silva once he completes his free transfer to the club.

The Brazil international recently parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain after eight years and he is now on the verge of signing for the Blues.

According to Globo Esporte, Lampard sees Silva as the potential leader of the club's backline despite the fact that he has entered the final phase of his career.

It is added that the 35-year-old could be named the new captain once his move to the Blues is officially confirmed. He is due to undergo a medical with the club on Thursday.

The Blues have already spent more than £130m on three major signings in the form of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell, and they are expected to add more players to the squad.

Aside from Silva, Kai Havertz and Malang Sarr are expected to join the club. They are also eyeing a new goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga, who had an average 2019/2020 campaign.
