Liverpool open talks to sign Kabak

Liverpool have reportedly opened negotiations with Schalke 04 over a potential January deal for Ozan Kabak.

The Reds are expected to be without centre-back Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season after a knee ligament injury sustained in the Merseyside derby.

Kabak has been identified as one of the club's top targets to fill the void and The Mirror claims that the Reds have opened talks with the German side.

Schalke want around £30m for the Turkey international, but the Reds are hoping to negotiate the terms over the agreement in the coming months.

The reigning English champions are prepared to pay an initial £20m fee for the centre-back with the remaining £10m to be settled in add-ons.

The Reds currently have only one specialist centre-back fit in Joe Gomez. Joel Matip is presently out of contention with a muscle injury.

Fabinho has been the makeshift centre-back alongside Gomez in recent games and he has done his job in an impressive fashion.
