Liverpool provide fresh injury update on Joe Gomez
Liverpool have confirmed that defender Joe Gomez has undergone an operation to repair a tendon in his left knee.
The England international suffered the injury during a training session yesterday without any contact from his teammates.
Gareth Southgate confirmed that the setback was indeed serious and he has now undergone a successful surgery.
No timescale has been given for his comeback, but he is expected most of the season due to the recovery process.
Similar to Gomez, Virgil van Dijk is also out of contention after a knee surgery and the Reds find themselves short of centre-back options.
Fabinho is currently sidelined with a hamstring issue and the likes of Nat Phillips or Rhy Williams could feature in the coming months.
One of the duo is likely to partner Joel Matip when Leicester City make the trip to Anfield after the current international break.
Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League standings with 17 points, just one behind league leaders Leicester.
