Manchester United defender Phil Jones could reportedly pursue a temporary move elsewhere when the transfer window reopens.

Jones has not played any part for the club since January and he was left out of their Premier League and Champions League squads in October as he had undergone a knee injury.

The England international is currently nearing a return to first-team training, but it is still unlikely that he will receive playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to The Star, both West Bromwich Albion and Derby County could be in the running to sign him on loan as they look to bolster their chances of beating the drop.

Out of the two, the Baggies are reportedly prepared to pay the vast majority of the defender's £120,000-a-week wages and that could hand them a clear advantage over the Rams.

The Baggies recently registered a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Manchester City, but manager Slaven Bilic was still sacked. He has been succeeded by Sam Allardyce, who has never been relegated from the top-flight.

West Brom are currently placed 19th on the league table with seven points after 13 matches. They are three points adrift of Fulham, who are just above the relegation places.
