Barcelona to swoop for Chelsea defender?
Barcelona are planning a late attempt to sign Marcos Alonso from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
Alonso has not played a single minute of first-team football for the Blues since September, but he managed to return to the bench against Wolves following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana are looking for a suitable back-up option to Jordi Alaba with the future of Junior Firpo still unclear.
Firpo has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan this month and reports have claimed that they could make a late push to sign him.
In that case, the Catalan giants will need a quick replacement and they have identified Alonso as the top target before next week's deadline.
Alonso currently has more than two years left on his contract and the Blues are looking for a fee of around £25m to sanction his sale.
The Blaugrana could propose to sign on loan with the option for a permanent purchase at the end of the campaign.
