Newcastle United offered chance to sign ex-Liverpool striker
Newcastle United have reportedly been handed the opportunity to sign Daniel Sturridge on a free transfer.
The England international has been a free-agent since his contract with Trabzonspor was terminated in March 2020.
According to 90min, the marksman is eager to return to the Premier League and his agent has made contact with the Magpies.
The Tyneside outfit are expected to be without leading striker Callum Wilson for at least six weeks which is a huge blow for them.
The former Bournemouth man has directly contributed to 15 of their 25 goals this term and his setback has come at the wrong time.
The club are still safe from the drop zone with a seven-point lead over 18th-placed Fulham, but will need someone to step up for them.
Miguel Almiron has recently been among the goals and it remains to be seen whether they are tempted to pursue a short-term deal for Sturridge.
Sturridge bagged seven goals from 16 games for Trabzonspor last term before his contract was ended amid a three-month ban for breaking betting rules.
