Manchester City to rival Manchester United for Real Madrid star?

Manchester City could go head-to-head with Manchester United to land the signature of Raphael Varane this summer.

The Frenchman has been a key figure for Los Blancos over the past decade, but seems likely to leave the club in the coming months.

His current contract expires in June next year, and talks over a renewal have completely stalled with his desire to move on.

United have been deemed favourites to sign him for a while, but Sport claims that they could face competition from the Cityzens.

The Premier League champions currently have Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake as the centre-back options.

However, there are reports claiming that Ake and Laporte could head for the exit door with the aim of securing regular playing time.

Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing a new defensive partner for club-captain Harry Maguire next season.

They recently committed Eric Bailly to a new contract, but that has not changed their stance on landing another centre-back.

Varane is valued at around £60m by Zinedine Zidane's side.
