Chelsea want to sign Lionel Messi?

Chelsea have been linked with a surprise move for Lionel Messi, who is a free agent after his formal departure from Barcelona.

The Blues are currently negotiating a deal for Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan, and are fancied to sign him in the coming days.

According to AS, they could follow up Lukaku's signing by luring Messi to Stamford Bridge on a long-term contract.

Roman Abramovich has planned a meeting with Messi's entourage, and will try to tempt the Argentine to join the Blues.

It could remain a tedious task as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are considered favourites to land his signature.

Les Parisiens have made contact with Messi while it is reported that the 34-year-old has an offer on the table from City Group.

City Group have proposed a three-year package. He would spend two years with the Cityzens before a season at New York City FC.
