Arsenal agree fresh terms with midfielder
Arsenal have reportedly agreed a new long-term contract with midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss was tipped to join Roma earlier in the transfer window, but the Serie A outfit failed to meet the Gunners' valuation.
Mikel Arteta recently confirmed Xhaka's stay at the club, and Fabrizio Romano reports that a new deal has now been agreed.
The midfielder was previously contracted to the Gunners until June 2023. He has agreed a two-year extension with a pay rise.
Xhaka has been a hugely influential figure under Arteta, and he was recently handed the captain's armband in Aubameyang's absence.
The Gunners produced a poor performance against Brentford on the road as they succumbed to an embarrassing 2-0 loss.
They were missing Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes due to different reasons.
Despite this, the result was far from acceptable. They barely provided an attacking threat against the newly-promoted side.
The Gunners have a tough London derby against Chelsea this weekend.
