West Ham and Everton wanted to sign ex-Arsenal star?
Premier League duo West Ham United and Everton were in the mix to sign David Luiz following his release from Arsenal earlier this summer.
The 34-year-old was linked with several high-profile clubs across Europe before signing a 16-month contract with Brazilian champions Flamengo.
According to Globo, the Hammers and Toffees were one among the clubs interested in landing the former Champions League winner.
Carlo Ancelotti was keen on bringing him to Everton before he left them for Real Madrid. The Toffees continued to maintain an interest.
The Hammers saw him as a short-term solution for their backline before they spent £25m to sign Kurt Zouma from London rivals Chelsea.
Luiz started his career at Brazilian minnows Vitoria. He is currently playing his first-ever season in the top tier of Brazilian football.
He has not played for the national team since 2017, but remains optimistic of winning back his spot ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
