Chelsea focusing on contract renewals for five players

Chelsea are planning on extending the contracts of five players over the coming weeks, Standard Sport claims.

The Blues made just two marquee signings this summer in Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez, the latter arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid.

The prime focus is on renewing player contracts. As per Standard Sport, Andreas Christensen is the first in line to renew his stay with the club.

Thereafter, the club will prioritise new deals for experienced duo N'Golo Kante and Jorginho. Mason Mount could also earn an improved contract.

Antonio Rudiger is the fifth player on their radar for an extension, but the German seems unlikely to prolong his stay at the moment.

The Blues' hierarchy have refused to meet his £200,000-a-week demands. They are reports suggesting that the negotiations have stalled.

Fresh talks are being planned, but the centre-back is reluctant to lower his demands amid high-profile interest from European clubs.

He has less than 10 months left on his deal. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are vying to sign him on a pre-contract in January.
