Liverpool to miss four players due to AFCON?

Matip set for Cameroon comeback?

Liverpool could be without four key players during the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are confirmed absentees next month due to their participation in AFCON.

It appears that Joel Matip could also be missing for the Reds as he is mulling over a potential comeback with Cameroon.

Matip announced his retirement from international football in 2015 following a dispute with the country's footballing body.

However, he is now reconsidering his stance. Samuel Eto'o, who is now the new president of FECAFOOT, has already spoken to him.

The AFCON is scheduled to begin on January 9, but the start could be preponed to January 3 after a special request from Al-Ahly.

Al-Ahly have several Egyptian players in their squad. They have their Club World Cup game against Monterrey on February 6.

The final of the AFCON will be played on the same date. To avoid a potential scheduling clash, the final could be brought forward.
