Arsenal miss out on PSV starlet Cody Gakpo
Arsenal's disappointing transfer window continued as PSV Eindhoven youngster Cody Gakpo opted to reject a move to the Emirates, and instead penned a brand new contract with the Eredivisie side until 2026. Gakpo had been linked with a mega money transfer to the Gunners, who are seeking a new attacker to replace the outbound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
With Auba set to leave North London this month, possibly for Qatar, the Gunners only have Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette available. Nketiah has been disappointing when called upon so far this year, and thus Gakpo emerged as a potential signing for Arsenal.
Rumours suggested that the Gunners would pay 25 million euros for the player, but talk of a move was quickly rejected after the forward put pen to paper on a new contract.
Gakpo said: "It’s a massive honour to extend my time here.
"I have a clear mission this season: win trophies with PSV.
“I will give my very best to be successful with the team. I want to repay the trust the club is putting in me.”
