Arsenal need to break transfer record for 31-goal striker
Arsenal will need to break their own transfer record to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to A Bola.
The Gunners are firm admirers of the Portugal international, who has netted a stunning 31 goals for Benfica this term.
They are continuing to monitor his progress, but may need to pay a premium fee to land his services over the summer.
Benfica signed Nunez for just £20 million from Almeria two years ago, but they now value him at around £84m.
With three years left on his deal, they are in a strong position to negotiate, and may decline to lower their demands.
The Gunners spent a club-record fee of £72m on Nicolas Pepe three years ago, but has yet to make a significant impact.
They may be wary of making a huge outlay on Nunez despite the fact that he has excelled in the Champions League.
The striker has netted goals against the likes of Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool this campaign.
