Thomas Tuchel explains why Romelu Lukaku didn't face Everton
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has explained the reason behind Romelu Lukaku sitting on the bench against Everton.
The Blues suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss at Goodison Park on Sunday. Richarlison scored the only goal in the 46th minute.
Following the game, Tuchel said that Lukaku's absence on the field was influenced by the half-time substitution of Jorginho.
He said via Goal.com: "I didn’t bring on Lukaku because we brought Jorginho off. We only had three changes."
The Italy international was taken off with a potential injury, and this forced the Blues to replace him at the break with Mateo Kovacic.
They had plenty of attempts on goal in the second half, but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was in excellent form between the sticks.
The victory has taken the Toffees within two points off Leeds and Burnley, who are currently 17th and 16th respectively on the table.
With another five games to play, Frank Lampard's side will feel they have a realistic chance of beating the drop with an easier run-in.
