Tottenham manager reveals failed bid for Luis Diaz
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has revealed that this club tried to sign Luis Diaz before Liverpool werre successful in their move for the winger. After Spurs' 1-1 draw at Anfield last night, the Italian sensationally revealed that the club could've signed Diaz.
Diaz has been a revelation at Liverpool, scoring five goals in 21 games for the club.
"We knew [Diaz] was a top player," quipped Conte. "I think [managing director of football Fabio] Paratici tried to see the possibility to sign him, but in the same way, we signed [Dejan] Kulusevski and to see the capacity of this player to come into our team, like Rodrigo Bentancur.
"When there is an important player, it is important to try to sign him because you know a top player will improve your team and the quality of your squad. If you want to win something, for sure you need players at the top, not medium level players."
The Colombian attacker scored 26 goals in 77 games for his former club Porto, and this form persuaded Liverpool to splash 45 million euros on the signing.
