Johnstone on his way to Spurs

Manchester United have decided against signing West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer.

The England star has decided to leave the Baggies on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.

He is eyeing a Premier League return, but United appear unlikely to make a contract proposal for him.

The Red Devils currently have David de Gea as the undisputed goalkeeper across all competitions.

Dean Henderson has been a quality deputy, and the hierarchy have no desire to replace either of them.

Hence, a reunion with their former graduate is unlikely. Johnstone may still end up in the top-flight.

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as strong contenders to land him as a back-up to Hugo Lloris.

Pierluigi Gollini is currently in the role, but he is widely expected to return to Atalanta after his loan.

Spurs have the option to buy him, but they have already made it clear that they are looking elsewhere.

Johnstone is likely to sign a four-year deal with the north London giants.
