Arteta wants Tielemans at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the hierarchy to make an opening offer for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian has been a long-term target for the north London giants, and they are now weighing up a potential approach.

According to The Telegraph, Arteta has urged the Gunners to make an opening bid of around £25 million for the 25-year-old.

Tielemans was previously determined to play in the Champions League, but he is now open to joining a Europa League club.

This has handed a boost for the Gunners, but they will still need to convince the Foxes to sanction his sale in the coming weeks.

Brendan Rodger's side face the prospect of losing Tielemans on a free transfer when his contract expires in 13 months' time.

They are prepared to sell him in the next transfer window, but are likely to hold out for more than £30m, considering his potential.

Tielemans bagged six goals and four assists from 32 league games this term.
