Djed Spence joins Tottenham as Conte reveals signing wasn't his choice
Yesterday Tottenham completed the long awaited signing of Djed Spence in a £16 million deal, and sensationally manager Antonio Conte revealed the signing wasn't his choice. Spurs have been chasing the Middlesbrough player for many months, after an impressive campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Spence has signed a five year deal at White Hart Lane.
Conte told reporters: "Spence is an investment of the club. The club wanted to do it. I said, 'OK, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us'. The club decided to buy him."
Spence wrote on his Twitter page yesterday, "it’s official! Bery happy to finally sign for such a great club, it’s a blessing to be here and I can’t wait to get started."
It is understood that Spurs had been chasing a deal for Spence since February of this year, and Man Utd were amongst possible locations for the attacking full-back.
Spence also turned down a return to Nottingham Forest, as he wasn't interested in a move back to the City Ground, despite their newly promoted status.
