Arsenal closer to new Saliba deal

Arsenal are making progress over a new deal for William Saliba, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Frenchman has been with the Gunners since 2019, but he is still awaiting his competitive debut for the club

He is expected to end the wait next season, but Arsenal also want to commit him to a new long-term contract.

Mikel Arteta recently confirmed that plans are underway, and Romano has revealed that talks have been held.

The Italian added that a contract has yet to be signed, but there have been positive talks with Saliba's agent.

Saliba's current deal expires in June 2024. Arsenal plan to keep him next term regardless of his contract status.

Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes are the regular starters, but Saliba should get plenty of minutes next campaign.

With the hectic schedule due to the World Cup, there should be plenty of rotation. Arsenal are also back in Europe.

Saliba has featured for the Gunners in their last two pre-season friendlies, and should also face Chelsea tomorrow.
