Liverpool prepared to spend big in January?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be handed a significant transfer budget in January in order to reinforce the squad.

The Merseyside giants spent less than £80m during the summer transfer window to land Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Arthur.

Among them, only Nunez and Carvalho have made a decent impact, and Klopp is said to be eyeing another marquee signing at the turn of the year.

According to Football Insider, a new midfielder could be top priority for January with Klopp unimpressed with Arthur's progress in training.

The Brazilian's loan stint from Juventus could be terminated this winter, and the Reds could then focus on purchasing a young midfield star.

Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham has been regularly linked with the Reds, but a deal seems unlikely until the end of the campaign.

Hence, the Merseyside giants could aim to sign Flamengo's Joao Gomes instead. He has a release clause worth £52 million on his contract.
