Arsenal confirm serious injury for key midfielder
Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Mohamed Elneny will be sidelined for the rest of the season after a knee injury.
The Egypt international suffered the unfortunate setback in training earlier this month and he has since undergone a surgery.
The Gunners have now formally confirmed the operation while also ruling out the midfielder for the remainder of the season.
Mikel Arteta's side were not planning to strengthen their midfield this month, but they had to change their strategy recently.
Jorginho has been brought in from Chelsea to reinforce the midfield. The 31-year-old should provide quality cover going forward.
Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are guaranteed starters for Arsenal, but their workload needs to be carefully managed as well.
Jorginho may not start in the Premier League but could be a regular feature in the knock out phase of the Europa League campaign.
The former Napoli man has signed for the Gunners until June 2024. The club will have the option to extend his stay for 12 months.
