As the transfer deadline moves ever closer, it appears that two Premier League heavyweights are to battle to sign 20-year-old striker Johan Bakayoko. Reports suggested that Liverpool and Tottenham are both in the race to sign the forward, with talk of a £24 million transfer bid on the way.

The talented Belgian striker, currently playing for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, has already appeared four times for the Belgium national team, scoring one goal, and is highly regarded in his home country. Comfortable playing as a winger or as a lone striker, Spurs want to sign Bakayoko as an eventual replacement for Harry Kane, who left White Hart Lane for Bayern Munich recently.

Liverpool on the other hand will not promise regular first-team football immediately, seeing Bakayoko as a hot prospect for the future. With Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez in their own ranks, the Reds want to sign the Belgian as an understudy.

PSV Eindhoven are ready to listen to offers, and the striker who scored five goals in 28 Eredivisie games also is eager to move to England before the end of August.
