Mikel Arteta explains why Fabio Vieira was taken off
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the decision to substitute Fabio Vieira at the interval was tactical.
The Portuguese got the nod over Kai Havertz in the three-man midfield, but he failed to create any notable chances.
At the break, he was one of those replaced by Arteta alongside Declan Rice.
While Rice was taken off with a back problem, the Gunners boss revealed that Vieira's substitution was a tactical one.
Havertz replaced him at the half-time interval of the north London derby, but the German failed to influence the game.
Arsenal took the lead early in the second half through a Bukayo Saka penalty but conceded just one minute later.
Jorginho's mistake opened the opportunity for James Maddison to feed Heung-min Son for his 150th Spurs goal.
With the result, Arsenal have dropped to fifth in the standings and are now four points behind toppers Manchester City.
Arsenal will be in Carabao Cup third round action against London rivals Brentford away from home on Wednesday night.
