Man City defender ruled out of Manchester derby
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has been ruled out of the Premier League derby against Manchester United next weekend.
The Cityzens returned to winning ways earlier today with a 2-1 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion, but they had a nervy finish.
They scored twice through Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland in the opening 19 minutes, but could not find the third goal to put the game to bed.
Ansu Fati scored for the Seagulls in the final quarter, but Pep Guardiola's side managed to cling on for the victory at the Etihad Stadium.
The victory came as a cost with Akanji being suspended.
He received his first booking for a cynical foul on Kaoru Mitoma midway through the second half and got his marching orders in stoppage time.
As a result, he will be ruled out of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford next weekend which is a huge blow, considering his importance.
Ruben Dias seems the most likely option to replace him in the line-up.
