Newcastle United want ex-Man Utd man to replace Tonali?
Newcastle United have identified former Manchester United midfielder Fred as a potential replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali.
Fred had a successful time with the Red Devils and he was hugely influential for them in the back end of the previous campaign.
Despite this, United opted to part ways with him over the summer after they decided to spend big on the services of Mason Mount.
Fred is currently contracted to Fenerbahce after his summer move from United, but he could be heading back to English football.
The Magpies are looking for a quality replacement with Tonali now banned until late August next year due to his betting breaches.
Instead of spending on a marquee player, they are prepared to find a short-term solution and Fred perfectly fits their requirements.
Newcastle have not been at their best over the Premier League campaign and they are currently sixth with 17 points on the board.
They host second-placed Arsenal in their next league game.
