Wolves in late transfer offer to Axel Witsel
Wolves have offered a last minute package to Belgium international midfielder Axel Witsel, with the free agent reportedly keen on a Premier League spell before wrapping up his footballing career. Witsel, 36-years-old, had been close to agreeing a deal with Udinese but a last ditch effort from Premier League side Wolves has given Witsel another option.
Witsel spent three years with Atletico Madrid but last season was informed that the club had no plans to extend his contract and has departed the Metropolitano. Udinese have signalled their intent to give Witsel a one-year deal and Wolves will now attempt to match that.
The 36-year-old is still considered a useful midfielder despite his advancing years, and the one year option will appeal to the Molineux outfit, who hope to add strength in depth to their squad before the end of the transfer window.
Witsel would like to try his luck in England, but should a deal fail to materialise would be equally happy in Italy with the Serie A outfit Udinese.
