La Liga: Sevilla move to 2nd

Sevilla had the perfect preparation for their Champions League game with Arsenal on Wednesday, thanks to a 4-1 victory over Recreativo. Elsewhere, Thierry Henry still waits for his first goal for Barcelona as the Catalans drew 0-0 with Osasuna.

Without injured strikers Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi, Barcelona showed little spark in Pamplona and are now four points behind leaders Real Madrid after three games. Thierry Henry again failed to score his first goal for the club, and Giovani dos Santos filled in for the injured players.

Elsewhere, Sevilla impressed as they defeated Recreativo 4-1 with two goals each for Kerzakhov and Fredi Kanoute. The win moved Sevilla up to second on six points, three behind leaders Real Madrid with a game in hand and one ahead of Barcelona.

Sevilla signalled their midweek intentions as just after Kanoute grabbed his second, he was taken off for new signing, Arouna Kone, the 12M EUR Ivory Coast striker, who made his debut midway through the second half.

Elsewhere, are still looking for a first win of the campaign after drawing 1-1 at promoted Real Murcia. Sergio Aguero grabbed Atletico's goal.

Villarreal snatched a late 1-0 win at Real Mallorca thanks to Nihat Kahveci's long range free kick and Espanyol beat visitors Getafe 1-0. Deportivo also won 1-0 at home to a disappointing Real Betis while Pedro Munitis gave Racing Santander a 1-0 victory over Levante.
