Everton move up to 5th
Everton have jumped up to fifth following a fine 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Premiership game at Goodison Park on Sunday. Joleon Lescott and Steven Pienaar scored on either side of the half time interval to fire David Moyesâ side to a well earned victory.
Middlesbrough started the game most brightly and will be disappointed not to have got something out of the game.
Defender Lescott scored a headed goal from close range after Boro failed to clear the corner-kick to safety in the 8th minute. Minutes later, Toffees keeper Tim Howard made a good stop to deny Gary O'Neil. After the first quarter of play, Yakubu had a great opportunity to score against his former employers Boro when he as found with a superb chip by Leighton Baines. But the Toffeesâ record signing saw his header from the six-yard box, go off-target.
Both sides continued attacking football to start the second half with Boro again wasting a chance as Lee shot wide.
The Toffees however grabbed their opportunity, as Pienaar placed his shot beyond the diving Schwarzer after 58 minutes, following a one-two with Arteta.
