Chelsea v City could be a classic

This weekend will see Chelsea take on their mega-rich rivals Manchester City in the EPL, in what promises to be the first real test of the season for the London side (and current league leaders). So, I hear you cry, where are the opportunities to make a bit of cash from this battle of the titans?

Well, the current odds seem to suggest that Chelsea, despite suffering a shock Carling Cup exit last night, are going to take the battle to a City side which looks like it may well be short at the back, despite manager Roberto Mancini having an enormous squad to pick from. With Chelsea so far strolling along in the Premier League, demolishing all opponents who happen to step in their way, there isn't too much value to be found in the match odds market.

As a result, the market I would take a look at would be the first goalscorer, with Didier Drogba likely to punish any defensive mistake by City. For those who like a bit of risk in their betting, Chelsea’s midfield engine Michael Essien has been handed rather long odds to score first, despite the fact that he is certainly not someone to hold back when it comes to getting into a shooting position. Essien has been in fine goalscoring form so far this Premier League campaign and there's no reason to think that trend will come to an end.

For those who enjoy sitting back and watching the brawls ensue, this fixture may well be one that delivers a fair amount of disagreements on the pitch, with the likes of Patrick Vieira and John Terry always passionate candidates capable of getting into heated situations in a fixture with so much at stake, even at this early stage of the season. With this in mind, bettors might want to put some money on a red card (or even two) being issued during the game, or even backing the scenario of there being over five yellow cards during the match.

If, unlike many, you're convinced by the new set-up at City and reckon they can capture the cohesive team spirit that has so far been lacking, backing the Manchester side to win from behind could prove a pick that earns a fantastic return for a risk-taking punter.
