Man City trounce Man Utd 6-1

One of the Premier League's all time shocks saw Manchester City win the battle of Manchester, as they travelled to Old Trafford and won 6-1. An amazing 3 goals in injury time made this result seem more like a cricket score, and City go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Prior to the game, City sat comfortably at the top of the league just a point ahead of United.

Man Utd were hoping to use their home advantage to good effect today, and show their city neighbours why they are the champions of England.

The game took a very bright start. The game seemed to be well within Man Utd's grasp until, after just 20 minutes, the deadlock had been broken.

Mario Balotelli took control of a pull back from James Milner, and the Italian smashed the ball home to send the away fans into raptures. He exposed a t-shirt reading "why always me?", with reference to the continuous headlines in the press in recent weeks.

United still had control of the game though at times, and City were forced to defend the game out until half time.

After the restart, Jonny Evans saw a red card from Mark Clattenburg. Evans had a torrid afternoon against the city rivals, and was sent off for pulling back Balotelli.

Then the dominance began. City were in fantastic form and James Milner skipped past a midfielder to send through David Silva, who cut the ball back for Balotelli to score his second. The game was already out of reach for United.

James Milner was simply outstanding today, and he certainly has improved his chances of an England call up as he slipped through Micah Richards to tee up Sergio Aguero to make it 3-0 and an absolute demolition for United.

With 15 minutes left, Edin Dzeko very nearly made it 4-0, but good goalkeeping from David De Gea kept him out.

United then pulled their way back into the game with a goal from Darren Fletcher, but it was surely too little too late.

The last few minutes of the game were epic. Man City were already celebrating victory, when Edin Dzeko took the ball from a corner and sent the ball home.

Just a minute later, it was 5-1, as Edin Dzeko sent through David Silva to smash the ball past David De Gea.

Then, the nightmare was complete, as one of the most immaculate passes of the day from David Silva sent through Edin Dzeko to make it 6-1.

United succumbed to their biggest home defeat since 1955, and Man City go five points clear at the top of the league.
