Arsenal want Tom Cleverley as part of Vermaelen deal

Cleverley wanted at Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing up Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley in a deal which would involve Thomas Vermaelen moving the other way.

Vermaelen is understood to be keen on a switch to Old Trafford this summer, having been pecked down the order at the Gunners, with manager Arsene Wenger preferring Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker for the central defensive partnership.

According to The Mirror, Wenger is believed to be a huge admirer of Cleverley, and would be willing to sign the England international during the summer transfer window as part of a deal which would see club captain Vermaelen move to the Mancunian giants.

The Gunners are also monitoring the situation of Chris Smalling, as Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal prepares for a major overhaul of the squad in the off-season.
