Leicester City show interest in Defoe
Premier League’s newly promoted side Leicester City are plotting a shock deadline day deal for Toronto FC’s striker Jermain Defoe.
The English international joined the Major League Soccer side in January this year, but looks to be on his way out of the Onatrio club after just five months and 11 goals in 16 appearances for the Reds.
And according to reports in Sky Sports, the Foxes are leading the race to sign the 31-year-old, with Tottenham Hotspur, Queen Park rangers and Arsenal being the other interested parties.
The player, who rose through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and West Ham United, joined Tottenham in 2004. He then served a year in Portsmouth in 2008 after a brief loan spell, but returned to White Hart Lane in 2009, and has played 352 games for the Lilywhites in all, scoring on 137 occasions.
Defoe has won 55 international caps for the Three Lions, scoring 19 times, and Nigel Pearson would be hoping to bring in the star to the King Power Stadium as the transfer window draws to its end in the next few hours.
