Paul Scholes doubts Anthony Martial's ability
Paul Scholes has insisted that summer signing Anthony Martial does not have the pedigree to lead Manchester United's attack.
The 19-year-old joined the Red Devils from AS Monaco for a £36m fee on transfer deadline day.
Martial made a great start to his United career as he scored five goals in all competitions, and this led to comparisons with Arsenal Great Thierry Henry.
However, the young striker has since then struggled to handle the heavy workload, and is now finding it hard to find the net.
Scholes now feels that the teenager is not good enough for United, and the club may need to go for a new centre-forward in the New Year.
"Martial, for me, he's still got a lot to prove goalscoring wise, he isn't a centre-forward where he lives for goals, he likes to play outside of the box, he likes to drift to the left wing, he doesn't look like he's bothered if he misses a chance, he doesn't look bothered if he scores a goal, where as a centre-forward, all you live for is scoring goals," the former England international told BT Sport.
"He doesn't look that type of player to me, and maybe Manchester United need to go into the transfer market for one of them."
United visit league toppers Leicester City in their next Premier League encounter on Saturday.
