Reds plan to strengthen their backline in the summer

Liverpool are planning a double raid on Borussia Dortmund's Matthias Ginter and Atletico Madrid's Theo Hernandez as they look to shore up their leaky defence in the summer.

The Reds have lacked the depth in defence this season with Lucas Leiva on occasions deployed in an unfamiliar centre-back position due to an injury to Dejan Lovren.

According to The Sun, Klopp is prepared to lodge an attempt to sign Ginter, who is currently in the rank of his former club Dortmund.

The German international, who is often compared to Arsenal's Per Mertesacker, has been a regular starter in Thomas Tuchel's side, who has adopted the 5-3-2 formation in recent weeks.

Ginter, who is a centre-back by trade, has started 19 games for the Bundesliga giants, who are vying for the runners-up spot in the German league.

Meanwhile, the Reds boss also has an eye on Atleti sensation Theo Hernandez, who is on a season-long loan with Deportivo La Coruna.

The 19-year-old left-back is likely to be behind his sibling Lucas and Filipe Luis on his return to Atleti and the Reds are hoping to lure him ahead of European champions Real Madrid.

James Milner has impressed in his makeshift role on the left side of the defence, but Klopp is still keen on recruiting a genuine specialist in order to push the Englishman forward.
