Preview: QPR vs. Chelsea

Preview: QPR vs. Chelsea

23 October 2011 - 08:24

This all London Premier League derby pits ambitious Queens Park Rangers against the exciting Chelsea in what is sure to be an exhilarating match for the neutral to watch.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Since QPR's summer takeover by Air Asia kingpin Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian billionaire has bankrolled moves for big names, such as a transfer for the much maligned Joey Barton. Meanwhile, Chelsea secured the services of Juan Mata from Valencia and are slowly beginning the rebuilding process under Andre Villas-Boas, as some of the Blues' more experienced stars such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry find themselves no longer the first names on the team sheet.

This season has been one of transition for both clubs, and that transition for Chelsea has been guided by young starlet Daniel Sturridge. Any player that is able to leave Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba restricted to time on the bench has to be special.

Meanwhile, QPR are currently trying to find the perfect blend at Loftus Road. In some games Rangers look like a force to be reckoned with, whereas in others - such as the 6-0 defeat to Fulham - you can only concern for their Premier League status come the end of the season.

    SQUADS

Fernando Torres could be called upon after completing a three game suspension, whilst Ramires will be missing with injury. Danny Gabbidon is out for QPR, but Adel Taarabt could be called upon despite picking up a virus.

    FORM

QPR have not won in their last 8 home games in the league, whilst Chelsea have won 6 of their last 7 league games.

This game will be the first time these two meet since 1996.

    PREDICTION

    Queens Park Rangers 1-3 Chelsea

    FIRST GOALSCORER

    Danny Sturridge
