Man City outclassed by Bayern Munich

Man City outclassed by Bayern Munich

03 October 2013 - 00:45

Manchester City were given a taste of how tough European football can be as they were thrashed by Bayern Munich at home.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The European champions put the Premier League side to shreds, as they walked away with a deserving 3-1 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart was the main architect towards the defeat as he should have done better to stop two of the three goals that did go through.

Bayern's Franck Ribery started off the rout as he drilled a low shot from distance which beat Hart at his near post in the 7th minute, as Manchester City ended the first half having just 25 percent of the possession.

Thomas Muller made the most of Bayern's chances in the second half as he ghosted past Gael Clichy, leaving Joe Hart sprawling to put Bayern 2-0 ahead in the 56 minute.

Three minutes later, Arjen Robben made it 2-0 for the Bundesliga outfit as Hart failed to prevent the Dutchman's right footed drive out at the near post.

Manchester City got a consolation goal in the 80th minute thanks to Alvaro Negredo's excellent finish, but this couldn't cancel out their lackluster performance on the night. The match had more drama to come, as Jerome Boateng was sent off on his return to the Etihad for bringing down Yaya Toure when the Ivorian midfielder was through on goal.
