Dutch defender not moving to Manchester United?

27 July 2014 - 17:19

Manchester United are reportedly not interested in buying Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • The 22-year-old Netherlands international has been heavily tipped to join Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer after an impressive World Cup stint under the United manager.

Serie A side Lazio reportedly remains the only club with serious interest in the player after United has decided not to sign the player this summer.

Following the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, and with the club to play with a 3-5-2 formation next season, Van Gaal needs at least one new defender to ensure he has enough strength in depth to cover for injuries and suspensions.

With Mats Hummels highly unlikely to leave Borussia Dortmund, that leaves Thomas Vermaelen and Daley Blind as the most likely summer signings if everything falls through with their plans.
