The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is believed to be in the search for a top-class centre-back with Premier League experience, as he aims to find a suitable replacement for outbound star Thomas Vermaelen.

The Mirror claims that City boss Manuel Pellegrini is open to the sale of the Serbia international, as he already has an efficient back-up in Karim Rekik at the club.

Arsenal have been busy this summer, having already secured the services of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers.
