Arsenal plot shock move for Colombian defender

05 September 2014 - 12:20

Arsenal are reportedly set to make a surprise move to sign Colombian centre-back Mario Yepes, according to The Metro.

  • Man Utd handed major injury boost for Liverpool game
  • Confirmed Arsenal line-up vs Fulham, five changes with Zubimendi out
  • The Gunners are short of options in central defence, following their failure to sign a suitable replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona during the early part of the transfer window.

The Metro claims that manager Arsene Wenger could offer a short-term deal to veteran defender Yepes to provide cover for Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and summer signing Calum Chambers.

Yepes was part of the Colombian squad which reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Brazil.
