Belgian international Toby Alderweireld is apparently reluctant to pen terms over a fresh contract unless Tottenham Hotspur meet his contractual terms.
The 28-year-old joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, and he has since formed an excellent bond alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the backline.
Spurs' hierarchy have been busy issuing fresh contracts to key defenders this campaign with Vertonghen, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Ben Davies all having committed their long-term futures to the club.
Alderweireld's current deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2020, but the north London club feel the player deserves a pay rise alongside a lengthy contract for his efforts.
According to The Sun, the Belgian is playing hardball in discussions over a possible extension as he said to demand wages of at least £100,000-a-week on par with the club's highest earners - Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.
The versatile defender is currently on a £44,000-a-week, and Spurs could prolong negotiations for a while as they are reluctant to go more than £70,000-a-week for the player.
