Manchester United willing to listen to Smalling offers

Wednesday's Europa League final could be Chris Smalling's final appearance for Manchester United, with the club reportedly willing to listen to offers for him, with West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion said to be interested.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip

  • Smalling has struggled with injuries this season, and as a result has fallen down the Old Trafford pecking order, behind the likes of Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo. Manager Jose Mourinho has been critical of the England defender at times this year, and SunSport today suggests that the club will offload him in the summer.

Two Premier League teams that are showing interest in the twenty-seven year old are West Ham and West Brom. West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is aiming for an assault on the top six next season, which is leading him to search for experienced players to add to his squad. The Hammers have also been linked with a move for Pablo Zabaleta, who is now a free agent after leaving Manchester City. West Bromwich Albion are also looking to improve on this season, with manager Tony Pulis interested in reuniting Smalling with another former Manchester United defender, Jonny Evans.

By selling Chris Smalling, Manchester United would also free up another spot in their squad for next season, which many expect to be filled by Burnley defender Michael Keane, who came through the United academy.
