Arsene Wenger eyeing Manchester United striker?

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could shift his intention to Manchester United forward Anthony Martial in the search for a new striker.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • The France international joined the Red Devils from Monaco in the summer of 2015 and bagged 17 goals across all competitions while playing in the centre-forward role.

However, with the appointment of Jose Mourinho last summer, Martial fell out of favour for the striker's role with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the main candidate to lead the line.

On top of this, Martial was criticised for his poor work rate while tracking back, and this saw a younger Marcus Rashford get the nod up front in the injury absence of Zlatan.

Overall, Martial managed to start in just half of United's league games last season while accumulating just four goals in the process.

According to The Mail, Wenger could revive his previous interest in Martial, should he fail to pursue a world-record deal for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is angling towards a potential move to Real Madrid, and this could switch Wenger's attention to one or Martial or Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

Martial was initially dubbed as the new Thierry Henry due to his sublime goal on debut against Liverpool, but he has since struggled to live up to his hype.
