Alvaro Morata declares he is 'very lucky' to play alongside Eden Hazard

Spain international Alvaro Morata has admitted that he is 'very lucky' to play alongside Eden Hazard after the pair impressed in the 2-1 comeback win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The Premier League holders trailed 1-0 at the half-time break after Antoine Griezmann slotted in the opener for Atleti via a penalty.

However, the Blues came back with a strong performance in the second period with Morata scoring the equaliser whilst substitute Michy Batshuayi bagged the winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

Despite not finding the net, Hazard put in a standout showing for the Blues, providing the key assist for Morata's finely timed header into the net.

Speaking to BT Sport, Morata was pleased to have bagged an important win against Atleti, where no other English club has won previously. He added to praise the efforts of Hazard, who was the sparkling light in what was just his second Blues start of the season.

"It is a very important win for us. It was a big test. Atletico Madrid were in the Champions League final a few years ago and now we can go home relaxed and put this mentality into the Premier League," he told BT Sport. "It is great to play with a player like Eden Hazard. He is one of the best in the world and I am very lucky to play with him."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been careful with the handling of Hazard this term following an ankle fracture sustained on international duty with Belgium in June. Hazard is likely to start from the off when the Blues take on leaders Manchester City in Saturday's crunch Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge.
