Mikel Arteta confirms double injury concern for Arsenal ahead of Sheffield United clash

16 January 2020 - 20:17

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that he has concerns over the fitness of Lucas Torreira and Sead Kolasinac ahead of Saturday's Premier League meeting against Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.

  • Arsenal to hijack Chelsea deal for English winger?
  • Arsenal & Chelsea battling to sign Ajax defender

  • The north London side have been hampered by regular injuries during the course of the current campaign and they are presently without Calum Chambers with a season-ending knee injury while Kieran Tierney is sidelined until March after a dislocated shoulder.

Ahead of the Blades clash, Arteta has now revealed that both Kolasinac and Torreira are not 100 percent fit and they may require late fitness tests prior to the Premier League game on Saturday.

Speaking on Kolasinac, he said: "The doctors are assessing [Sead] still – he had a normal session yesterday. He’s been in some discomfort. we have to assess him and see if we can get him fit for Saturday or he will be out."

Meanwhile, when pressed on the fitness of Torreira, he added: "It is something related to his hip, producing some pain in the muscle. I don’t know. He trained yesterday as well, but still not 100 per cent confident so we will have to wait and see again."

In the possible absence of Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi is likely to take up the second midfield role alongside Granit Xhaka with Joe Willock and Daniel Ceballos possibly offering the back up from the bench.

Meanwhile, Kolasinac's injury concern may leave the Gunners with no specialist left-backs in the senior squad, given Tierney is already sidelined. Bukayo Saka may act as the emergency replacement for the weekend.
